About Lernilo

Organization Overview

Lernilo is a daily functional skills training system designed to improve adult competence in literacy, numeracy, and practical reasoning. The platform delivers structured, short-duration exercises that build the ability to interpret information, work with quantities, and reason through everyday situations.

The system is aligned conceptually with international adult competency frameworks, including domains measured in large-scale assessments such as PIAAC. It is designed for use alongside existing education, workforce, and public service programs.

The name Lernilo comes from Esperanto and means “learning tool,” reflecting the system’s role as a practical instrument for developing measurable ability.

Public Need

Where are the gaps?

A substantial number of adults complete formal schooling without achieving baseline functional competence. Common gaps include:

  • understanding written instructions
  • interpreting schedules, prices, and forms
  • performing basic calculations in real contexts
  • evaluating information and making routine decisions

These gaps affect employability, access to services, and independent functioning. They also create additional administrative and support burdens for institutions.
Most education systems are structured around subjects, progression, and certification. Fewer systems are designed to continuously build and maintain practical, task-level competence in adult populations.
